Students may still explore NRI options through deemed university counselling (MCC) separately.
What are NRI Seats?
In the context of Medical Admission, NRI seats are meant for students connected to Non-Resident Indians either directly or through sponsorship. Generally, this includes students whose parents or siblings are NRIs, or students who are sponsored by an eligible NRI relative under NRI-sponsored provisions.
The provision of NRI seats in Medical Colleges is designed primarily to support the financial sustainability of Medical Institutions. These seats typically have higher fee structures compared to regular seats, and the revenue generated helps colleges maintain infrastructure and cross-subsidize medical education for Indian students.
Direct NRI Candidates
Students whose parents or siblings are Non-Resident Indians. The candidate themselves or their immediate family member must hold NRI status with valid documentation.
NRI Sponsored Candidates
An eligible NRI relative sponsors the student's admission. Specific documentation is required to establish the sponsorship relationship and NRI status of the sponsoring relative.
